Grave stele of Paramythion, Greek, about 380-370 BC
On the right is the actual relief sculpture. On the right is the same object seen in ultra-violet light which reveals details of the paint traces and the richness of the patterns. In the center is a copy colored to match the details revealed by the ultraviolet analysis and pigment traces. Often the actual colors are determined from a combination of pigment traces and knowledge of all pigments known to be used at the time.
