Emily Brontë died at age 30. She had written some poetry and one novel. Fortunately it was a very great one - Wuthering Heights. It was published under the male name of Ellis Bell. It was only after her death that the public discovered her real identity. The legend grew of the untrained genius living in isolation in the Yorkshire wilds. In fact she was trained in classical literature on the continent and read books in foreign languages fluently.
