Pronounced "Gatherer", but, hey, it's web 2.0 and we leave the last
"e" out right? Gatherr collects the best of this and that from here and
there on the web for no other reason than sharing. It's about stuff
that seemed interesting at the time. Enjoy.
ABOUT
My
name is Tony Johansen. I am an artist. I like art and science and
poetry and books and history and technology and lots more besides.
Every day I am excited by the marvelous things I see in this wonderful
world and beyond. I love the Internet for giving me access to so much.
I am like a sponge for wondrous things or things that make me wonder. This site is really just a
scrapbook. Being on the web, however, means being able to share the
treasures I find. That's me, Tony Johansen, artist who likes to share
my excitement of being alive.

BRAZIL
A Brazilian model was caught (and videoed) having sex on a beach. As a result YouTube was banned.
MOROCCO
YouTube banned because of a video critical of the King plus other videos crticizing politics in Western Sahara.
TURKEY
YouTube banned because of a video critical of Ataturk the founder of modern Turkey.
THAILAND
YouTube banned because of videos critical of the King.
PAKISTAN
YouTube banned for 2 hours in February. Lifted immediately because the attempt to ban it locally brought down YouTube all over the world.
AUSTRALIA
Australia needs to hang its head in shame. In a long list of repressive regimes and third world countries, Australia is the lone Western democracy to institute a ban on YouTube. True it is only partial, and restricted to a single state - Victoria - but in that state parents and schools have banned YouTube for school students. Like Iran, it appears they believe that Victorian students should be protected from “immorality” and time wasting. While students elsewhere are encouraged to creatively interact with the Internet, Victorian students are encouraged to be, well, Victorian.
IRAQ
YouTube is available to the citizens but US forces are not permitted to access it by order of the Pentagon. It seems too many soldiers were filming themselves doing naughty things. They used to say that truth is the first casualty of war. Now days it seems YouTube is the new first casualty.
CHINA
China likes to ban lots of things like Bjork’s songs, and Ben Hur, so why not YouTube? They have yet to do so despite threats but they did attempt to control access in Tibet during recent protests.
INDIA
India threatened to ban YouTube due to a video that criticized Ghandi
